COURSE PATHWAYS

At the UK School of Floristry, we offer a wide range of hands-on courses, from relaxed workshops and introductory classes through to comprehensive career training and advanced Intensives with Joseph Massie.
We’re often asked which course is the best place to begin, but the answer will depend on where you currently are in your floral journey and what you’d like to achieve.

To help you choose, we’ve grouped our most popular courses into a simple pathway below. You don’t have to complete every stage before progressing to the next, but each course has been designed to help you build your skills, knowledge and confidence as you continue.

If you’re still unsure which course is right for you, please do get in touch with us.
We’ll be very happy to talk through your experience and help you decide where to begin.

Step One

Floristry Taster Class
Our Floristry Taster Class is the perfect first step for anyone who is curious about flowers and would like to experience a full day of hands-on floristry.
Over the course of the day, you’ll be introduced to professional flower care and some of the Elements of floral design before creating three distinct pieces of floristry, each using a different skill and technique.
The Taster Class is ideal if you’d simply like to enjoy a creative day working with beautiful flowers, or if you’re considering taking your interest further and would like to discover whether floristry could be the right pathway for you.
No prior experience is required, and you’ll take each of your finished designs home with you.

Step Two
Develop Your Essential Floristry Skills
Once you’re ready to explore floristry in greater depth, our two-day Essentials courses allow you to develop your practical skills while beginning to understand the techniques, theory and commercial thinking behind the work.
You can choose the course that best reflects your interests, or join us for more than one to build a broader foundation.

Floristry Essentials
Floristry Essentials is our broadest two-day introduction to floral design.
Across the course, you’ll explore professional flower care and conditioning, bouquet work, naturalistic arrangement, sympathy floristry, kenzan mechanics, taped-grid design and contemporary wearable flowers.
Alongside creating six hands-on designs, we’ll introduce you to the foundations of shape, movement, balance and proportion, helping you move beyond simply following instructions and begin understanding why a floral design works.

Retail Floristry Essentials
Retail Floristry Essentials is designed for anyone interested in creating flowers for real customers and everyday commercial briefs.
Across two practical days, you’ll create gifting bouquets at different price points, sympathy flowers, a corporate arrangement and retail wedding designs. Alongside the practical work, we’ll explore recipes, substitutions, professional wrapping and presentation, stock rotation, waste, costing and pricing.
This is an excellent course for anyone considering working within a flower shop or studio, as well as developing florists who would like to strengthen their commercial knowledge.

Wedding Floristry Essentials
Wedding Floristry Essentials provides a practical introduction to the flowers, techniques and planning involved in producing a complete wedding.
Across two days, you’ll create bridal and bridesmaid bouquets, personal flowers, a top-table design and a bud-vase tablescape. We’ll also explore flower recipes, quantities, pricing, production and how individual designs work together as one cohesive floral scheme.
This course is ideal if you’re particularly interested in wedding flowers or would like to begin developing the skills required to work with wedding clients.

Step Three

The Career Course & The Career Course : Mentored
Our flagship six-day Career Course is our most comprehensive introduction to professional floristry.
Across six days of immersive, hands-on learning, you’ll explore bouquets, arrangements, gifting, sympathy, weddings, events and corporate floristry, alongside professional flower care, buying, recipes, costing, pricing, business and floral design theory.
You’ll create throughout the course, but our focus is not simply on teaching you individual designs to reproduce. We want you to understand the techniques, mechanics and commercial thinking behind the work, so that you can confidently approach new briefs once you leave the classroom.
The Career Course is a significant investment in both time and funds, so many students choose to complete one of our introductory courses beforehand. However, no prior floristry experience is required, and the course has been designed so that complete beginners can join us too.

With The Career Course Mentored, you’ll receive a year of comprehensive and on-going support following the course.

Step Four

Develop your Style

Once you have a confident understanding of the fundamental skills of floristry, you may wish to develop your knowledge within a particular area of floral design.
Our three-day Intensives with Joseph Massie are designed for florists who are already comfortable with the basics and are ready to explore more ambitious work.

The Wedding Intensive explores luxurious wedding flowers, portfolio development and the creative and commercial considerations involved in producing work for modern weddings.

The Installations Intensive explores large-scale floral design, including structure, mechanics, scale, pricing, branding and the creation of impactful work for weddings, events and brand activations.

Learning For Pleasure

Not every floral journey needs to lead towards a new career.

Our relaxed Floristry Workshops are perfect if you’d simply like to spend a few hours working with beautiful seasonal flowers, learning something new and enjoying a little creative time for yourself.

We also offer Seasonal Special versions of selected Taster and Essentials courses throughout the year. These feature shorter teaching hours and a carefully adapted selection of seasonal projects, making them a lovely and accessible way to experience the UK School of Floristry.
